Saints of the Society

The lives of the saints associated with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul are sources of inspiration and guidance. They embody the virtues of faith, courage, and compassion, showing us how to live the Gospel in action.

Models of Charity, Faith, and Holiness

St. Gianna Beretta Molla

A gifted pediatrician and loving mother, Gianna balanced her professional career with an unwavering commitment to serving the poor. She joined the Society as a student, motivated by her deep Catholic faith. Her most famous act of heroism was choosing to protect the life of her unborn child, even at the cost of her own. Canonized in 2004, St. Gianna is a powerful example of sacrificial love, courage, and dedication to family and faith

Pope St. John Paul II

Before becoming pope, Karol Wojtyła was a committed Vincentian during his university years. His leadership as pope was marked by a relentless defense of human dignity, an emphasis on mercy and forgiveness, and a global outreach to the marginalized. He beatified and canonized numerous Vincentians, highlighting the Society’s importance in living out the Gospel. His life challenges us to live boldly and lovingly in a complex world.

Sts. Louis and Zélie Martin

The first married couple canonized together, Louis and Zélie Martin exemplify how holiness can be lived in everyday family life. They were active members of Catholic charitable works, including supporting the Society. Their nurturing of faith and virtue in their children, especially St. Thérèse of Lisieux, has left an enduring legacy of love and dedication to God’s will.

Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati

Known for his joyful spirit and zeal for justice, Pier Giorgio was an avid participant in Catholic Action and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. His life was a vibrant witness to the Christian call to serve the poor and oppressed. Pier Giorgio’s motto, “Verso l’alto” (“To the heights”), invites young people to rise in virtue and charity. He is expected to be canonized in August 2025.
